The triumph of addiction

I got as far into the bedroom today as I could, pulled out paper, a set of scissors and markers. This was not all I needed to make Jo's card, so I went to Michael's, bought a trimmer, glue, adhesive and embellishments. I couldn't hold out any longer. Now, I will be able to print pictures and scrap. I will probably have to buy some paper though. I wasn't able to get any card stock, so I will have to buy specifically for pages I want to do for a while. What a hardship! It will force me to do more with less for a while though. That is a challenge for any spoiled scrapper.

No Scrap Room update this weekend

There won't be a scrap room update this weekend. Nick and Jaimie went off to Tahlequah for a float trip this weekend. Darn them for going off and having fun. :) I am starting to have severe scrapping withdrawal pangs. I am almost to the point where I am going to have to try to get to some of my supplies. I need to make JoEtta a birthday card. Why didn't I think of things like this when I started carrying stuff out of my room so the boys could start work.

Anniversary Card

First of all, in the interest of full disclosure, I scraplifted this design from a card in the June issue of Cardmaker magazine. I can't tell you who did the card, because the magazine is in the maze in the guest bedroom while I am waiting for my craft room to be finished.

The paper is from my Papercrafts monthly kit. I really love the bright colors and the sparkle on the flowers. This is a little kit and not too expensive, but I love the heck out of what I get sent. I will have to admit that the Christmas in July I got this month took me back for a minute, but I do have some Christmas pictures I need to scrap. (Don't we all?)

I made the card for Ray for our 42nd Wedding Anniversary July 10th. He like most of the people I give cards to now. He would be disappointed if he didn't get a hand made card. It gives me so much pleasure to make them too. Cardmaker magazine is the best source of card ideas I have come across so far.

Hot, Hot, Hot

I am just going to mention here that it has been hot for the last couple of days. We finally hit 100 degrees as a high. This is really late in the summer to finally get hot. I think it is probably harder to take because it has been so mild before this. Humans are strange, they adapt well, but complain about it the whole time. Stay cool!

Second Weekend

Wiring, I scared the both of them when the flash went off.
Recessed lighting all around except for the ceiling fan.
The sheet rock is hung, the ceiling has to be mudded, but almost
ready to start the texturing.

There was a lot of work done in my scrap room this weekend. The sheet rock and the lights were completed. When people come to scrap with me, there will be plenty of light and space. I need to go out next week and buy paint, the cabinets and shelving. I am even beginning to accept the idea that I can sell a lot of the stuff that was in here before at the community garage sale next month. I can use the money I make to decorate. Yeah...

In the beginning...

Getting started

My friends all know that I have been talking about redoing my craft room for a couple of years. My son in law Nick had said he would do the work if we bought the supplies. But I have procrastinated and not done anything. Three weeks ago, Nick told us he and some friends would do the work starting last weekend. So we finally got moving. I had more stuff in that room than I realized. Our guest room is stuffed to the doorway. I know that there is a lot of stuff that isn't going back in there when the room is done.

I am going to have a counter with two work spaces along the right wall in the top photo, then I will put my sewing machine with a wardrobe storage along the wall behind where I was standing. Nick and Jaimie have told me I will have a room that will make people go "WOW!" I believe them. I have made sketches, chosen counter top and paint. I may have to move down there when it is done.

I will post more pictures as the work goes on.

Dad's 89th Birthday

We all got together at Logan's Steakhouse to celebrate Dad's 89th birthday. We had a good time and Dad and Jaunita said they really enjoyed being able to see so many of the children, grandchildren and great grandchildren together.

July 4, 2008

I am finally putting up some pictures from Independence Day. Every year, I take my camera out and take photos of the fireworks. This year I like them better than I have in the past. But I still haven't reached the point where I have gotten a show stopper of a shot. Maybe next year. We always sit in the front yard and shoot off fire works. This year Wyatt was more involved, but still doesn't understand that sparklers are hot. We kept little fingers from being burned, but it wasn't for lack of trying to catch the pretty sparks. I really enjoy spending the 4th at home. We all missed our munitions expert Andrew though. He does such a good job of supervising the explosions.

Happy Fourth of July

It looks like we are going to have a sunny, hot 4th today. I am glad for that, we have had so much rain lately I wouldn't have been surprised if we hadn't been rained out. I will post some photos of today later, but I just wanted to write a bit about how things happen in bunches.

We have been approved to get our roof replaced. First the roofers wouldn't contact us, then Ray decided that maybe he wanted someone else to do the job, and is looking into that. We have the deductible to pay on that when we finally get the job done. The good thing is that when it is done, we won't have to think about re-roofing again in our lifetimes because Ray wants 50 year shingles.

Second, Ray had noticed a wet spot in the front yard. He dug the line up in the front yard and found a leak on Sunday. It is on our side of the meter of course. We called the plumber who has worked for us before and he is going to come out and repair it. Next Friday! Fortunately, Ray is handy and has put a patch on the leak which will hold till then. But we do have water and a huge hole in the front yard. The whole line has to be replaced at $11.75 a foot. All Right!

Last of all, I started the dishwasher, my trusty Maytag Wednesday night. It started out just fine, but then we heard a noise like someone was shooting off fireworks in a barrel. It was the dishwasher. It must be the pump or motor. Yesterday, I called the "Loneliest Man in Town" the Maytag repairman. They are coming out on Tuesday after noon. Now we will see if Maytag fixes the machine, or like the other appliance people tell me it is time to replace it. I am hoping for a $200.00 repair on this. Am I dreaming?

What I am hoping for after all this is a quiet period again without anything breaking down. Cross my fingers and toes on that.
